About Betonfraktion [dutch version hier]

"And now... for something completely different. Betonfraktion are a three piece (...) Just by looking at them you knew that things were going to take a radical turn (...) The tension and sense of interest in the room was palpable. Off we went; the singer indulging in every form of vocal theatrics he could muster, backed by a sort of sub-Beefheartian rumble, with a fleeting touch of that growly, furry tone The Melvins could conjure up."

Bandmembers of Betonfraktion are Frank Crijns (guitar), Provocase (drums) and Störsender Swarth (voice ‘n’ noise). Betonfraktion is loud, harsh and queer. The band’s goal is an inflammable cocktail of partly structured, partly improvised energy. But in the end the band is about rock. And roll, if you wish. Never a f*** dull moment. If you are the kind of person that needs labels, try 'noise rock', 'guerrilla prog' or 'bad injun' for size. Betonfraktion is streetwise. All the more, not to say mostly because the street is were we find our lyrics. Not meant to be a metaphor, this. Swarth picks up scraps, literally. Hastily written scrawls, love poems, snorters, you name it. No matter how filthy they look. There’s no sense in discriminating rubbish!

Incendiary Magazine | March 2014
Review 'Sure 'Nuff 'n Yes We Do'

'They make a racket that is both Fast and Bulbous, got that? And their new EP, which references the CAPTAIN in spades, is a brilliant, bejeweled, intricate gauntlet thrown down from the castle ramparts to us poor peasants to wonder over and, doubtless misinterpret.
[...]
Their agitational noise is in some ways unequalled in Holland; they feel much more like a German band to me. This may sound obvious if you already know they sing a lot in German, (e.g. Rattle Your Brain on this EP) but they are also pushy, in yer face, messy, prepared to fall on their arses, and happy to leave cavernous silences or ludicrous over extensions of a particular phrase or idea in
their music; which many Dutch experimental, or “difficult” bands do in a half-arsed manner.
It’s lurid stuff, but really enervating and good; and stuff that wrings every ounce of their message out for you. In case you didn’t get it first time around. Don’t play it early in the day or you may find you lose your sense of balance.'

Review 'Sure 'Nuff 'n Yes We Do'

'Sure ‘Nuff ‘n Yes We Do is a collection of four dirty, experimental noise rock tunes that should have a warning sticker stuck to them saying: “Warning! Only play on extreme high volume!” Betonfraktion is one of those bands that make it all sound easy, but when you take a closer listen you’ll notice that nothing in these songs is as simple as it seems.
[...]
It’s almost as if Frank Zappa joined forces with Butthole Surfers, Enablers and Glenn Branca to record this homicidal jazz, post-punk and noise rock onslaught. Poetic punk terrorism (no, this time I am not referring to Hakim Bey) in a smearing battering noise, clearly going for the outer limits of your imagination. Four songs of out-of-the-box music, simple joy for the adventurous ear. And all this from my own hometown. Lets go celebrate!!!'

Fret Magazine (Mei-Juni 2012)
Review 'Snake Nation Cropduster'

Incendiary Magazine | October 2013
Review gig CAB03, Leiden

"And now... for something completely different. Beton Fraktion are a three piece, girl drummer, a professorial type on guitar and a Goff punk Leigh Bowery look alike on vox. Just by looking at them you knew that things were going to take a radical turn; for better or for worse wasn’t immediately clear, but the tension and sense of interest in the room was palpable.
Off we went; the singer indulging in every form of vocal theatrics he could muster, whispered vocals, treated vocals, screaming, lectures, changes of language, it was a bravura display. Backed by a sort of sub-Beefheartian rumble, with a fleeting touch of that growly, furry tone The Melvins could conjure up, our singer had ample opportunity to indulge in all sorts of theatre; smashing cymbals, prancing around the room provocatively and always looking to stir up some emotion or other. The audience, initially cowed, started to get it; in fact two tall lads danced wildly in front of the band at some of the more rhythmic passages. What was in their tea?
Sometimes trios can be seen as the paradigm of “bands”; the mechanics are stripped bare and there’s no room for passengers..."

PARADOX, Tilburg, Netherlands | 2011 october 15
